Why is Techstravanganza important?

 

In recent years, fewer girls have been interested in science and technology careers.  We hope that this event will spark an interest in science for girls who may not be otherwise interested because they believe it to be boring, difficult, or only for boys.  We hope that some of the girls who attend Science and Techstravaganza will go on to take advanced science, math and technology courses or apply to Thomas Jefferson and won’t be dissuaded by stereotypes.  Since a smaller proportion of girls apply to TJ, we target all of Fairfax County elementary and middle schools, with a specific focus on the areas surrounding TJ.
